The Responsible Flush Alliance, a nonprofit trade association that is committed to educating consumers about responsible flushing habits, needed to create an in person activation in an effort to inform citizens how they can reduce damage to our nation’s sewage systems. In creative partnership with HZ & Burson, we tapped into Hollywood’s heritage by inviting attendees to step into the shadowy, mysterious world of “DIRE CONSEQUENCES OF A BAD FLUSH,” an experience that transforms the classic film noir aesthetic into an engaging, interactive mystery adventure at VidCon Anaheim. Vidcon is the premier event for the Creator Economy. We immersed attendees in a detective’s journey, guided by an unlikely hero — a singing toilet named Mel. Together, they seek to stop the sinister underboss of the sewers, known as the Clog Monster. Mel, the singing toilet, voiced by Broadway actors, performed noir-themed songs and provided auditory clues, leading participants through the narrative. Visitors examined clues, decoded messages hidden in QR codes, and engaged in gamified detective challenges, solving puzzles and quizzes about good flushing habits.
